This album has a nice variety of musical styles for its time, including LOTS of great rock and roll tracks and a few beautiful ballads!
Not sure why, but while I thought that the sound quality to all of the Beatles 2009 re-released CDs was magnificent, both the stereo quality to this release and "A Hard Day's Night" came out rather poor (That is why I docked one star from the overall product ... The same applies to the selections from these albums that were featured on the 2010 CD re-release of the 1962-1966 best-of "Red Album") ...The separation of the different elements in the stereo picture does not work as well as on earlier stereo versions of the tracks. The quality that we get here is reminiscent of many of the 1987 stereo mixes for the "Help!" and "Rubber Soul" albums, in which we do not get as wide a range of stereo quality and poor separation of what was originally to be featured in the left and right-hand stereo channels. When comparing the 2009 stereo re-masters to earlier stereo masters, the stereo versions of the "With The Beatles" tracks that were featured on "Meet The Beatles," from the first box set of "The Capitol Albums" on CD, have the best stereo quality. In addition, I used to have a second-hand copy of a stereo vinyl edition of "With The Beatles" from back in the day that I wish I had kept ... The stereo quality for the remaining tracks (The ones featured on the US "Second Album" release) were superb. For example, the piano that opens up the closing track, "Money," was fully featured on the right-hand stereo channel and not more "centered" as heard on the 2009 stereo re-master and the stereo mix from "Second Album." Two other tracks that differ severely in stereo quality are "Little Child" and "I Wanna Be Your Man" ... "Meet The Beatles" features the best stereo quality for both of those tracks as the instrumentation AND vocals are far better separated in stereo than the 2009 stereo re-masters ... The stereo quality that we get from the 2009 re-master is closer to the stereo quality found in many of the tracks found on "Second Album," with the vocals slightly more audible on the right-hand stereo channel and the instrumentation a little louder on the left. I do like how the 2009 stereo re-master of "All My Loving" beats out the stereo quality of the track found on the original 1993 CD edition of the "1962-1966" best of set ... That "mix" was so close to monophonic, with the vocals a touch to the right and the instrumentation slightly to the left! Anyway, I'm not sure if the poor stereo quality to the 2009 re-master was due to wear and tear of the original recordings or just "manipulated" just for the CD re-release, but somehow the original stereo quality remains for the rest of the stereo CD re-masters, including neighbor albums "Please Please Me" and "Beatles for Sale." Wish there was a way for those who worked on the 2009 CD re-masters to reissue a "two for" that includes the better stereo mixes from both "A Hard Day's Night" and "With The Beatles" on a single CD or just to "revamp" the stereo output for these two individual albums and include the mono mixes on the same discs, before or after the stereo versions. :)
Aside from the poor stereo quality to this particular release, any album of The Beatles should be something that we customers/fans should have the privilege of rating 100 or more "gold stars," especially from us die hard Beatle Fans or "Beatlemaniacs!"
Thanks for reading and God Bless! ~"KevyGuy" :)
Like many Beatles fans, I grew up listening to them in the 60's. They made a violent and polarizing time in America more bearable. In the 60's, I bought and played their LP's until they were damaged beyond repair. I bought into digital music in the 80's only to find that it paled in comparison to pure analog. I should have bought more pure analog LP's while I had the chance, but, thought the medium was gone, whether I liked it or not. Finally I found vintage equipment (Sansui 6700 Receiver, Marantz Model 6300 Turntable, and JBL S312BE Speakers) and set out to spend mega money on EBAY for sealed analog LP's from the 60's and 70's. Unfortunately, many albums made in the 70's were made of cheap thin vinyl and were often warped or had defects/noise when new and right out of the package, but, I persevered and have a good collection of Beatles and other pure Analog LP's and some 45's.
You don\'t have to spend Mega money, however, as these mono releases are superb in quality and sound. There is very little noise, often none between songs. The LP's are flat as they are 180 grams, and most importantly these LP's sound warm and beautiful. I just sat back, closed my eyes and let the music and harmonizing soothe my soul. I did not buy the box set for $375. I bought each individually. This along with a $40 reduction for applying for a credit card brought the total to about $250, and if you get a defective album, you can send it back instead of the whole box.
Remember though, "Let it Be" and "Abbey Road" are not included in the box set as they were only made in stereo. Capital US releases like "The Beatles Again" and "Beatles 65" won\'t be there either, but, you will find those songs in these mono releases anyway.
Thank you Apple/EMI/Optimal Media (Germany) for giving audiophiles what they've wanted for so many years. You did good.

Brilliant album, bought it three times over the years! Love the digit-pack and design, good booklet notes on this too. Early stereo? But still great.
Total respect to the late genius of Sir George Martin too!
Pressung und Klangqualität tadellos.
