Sounds fantastic. Pure. I haven’t listed to the Quadio yet. I have a Bose 900 speaker.

Despite having been around for over 50 years mixing multitrack recorded music into surround sound (more than 4 channels+) has no boundaries, or, formula…it is still the wild west. While there are those out there remixing every practical classic rock record into 5.1 with great proper applause (see: Steven Wilson) along comes a release that is thankfully left field of the norm. This “wild west” subjective crazy surround sound that Black Sabbath's Paranoid 1974 quadraphonic (4 speaker) quad version- a connoisseur’s medium from the mid 1970s where 4vchannel surround albums existed which needed special amps/receivers styluses on the turntable. The market was limited as a result. However thanks to digital, Paranoid quadio is a must-have for various reasons. First it contains a hi res 24 bit 192kHz flat transfer if the origin-era stereo mix, but more importantly, the long lost 4 channel adventurous surround hi res remaster. (In DTS, playable on 5.1 or 7.1 receivers and blu ray surround player. On this post-psych metal-blues-proto-pop-rock ultra classic album, there are elements in terms of sonics that lend themselves to being mixed in surround. However the stylings of panning and live eq’ing vary throughout the records’ numbers. It begins very ballsy- drums using thus encircling the listener by being in all 4 channels…things pan from corner to corner…drama being orchestrated on the fly. Makes for great immersion and a taste of the richness of the recorded instruments due to being more isolated for the remix. Some tracks are conservatively mixed, with things being spread about buy also lower fi and stationary. The use of wide volume dynamics are a big factor to this album…makes it more of a theatrical action jumping out of your seat volume level game. What’s also great is comparing the quad mix to the surround…the alternate sound universe of quad can have one its songs mixed out more dramatically- like something having a longing emotional reverb that makes the intended emotion and enjoyment of the music have more clarity. This early era quad album is not prim and proper like Pink Floyd, it’s te adolescent-piss-fueld movie sound fan's ballsy mixing of this rocking album that makes this a historic success, and mayvgive current 5.1 and Atmos mixers a good influence to let loose sometimes. Rhino/Warners records are slowly releasing “quadio” versions from their back catalogue…so do pay attention if you want a sonic experience and to have fun comparing the mixing style to that of another title or just to learn cinematically how the psychology of sound overall can be interpreted. This Black Sabbath quad mix , with warts and all, make for an 8.5 out of 10 listening experience.

This is the definitive version of this album. You can tell real care has been put into remastering this. Both the Stereo and Quad mixes are the best you've ever heard this album. I should note I also own the DVD-A version of this album that was remastered w/ a multichannel version (for those with surround sound) and this Quadio version blows that away.
